The Spotlight is on MaxMods

One of the accessible toy adaptations from MaxMods
MaxMods is a Colorado-based nonprofit with a mission to “make the world accessible for all” by creating adapted tools and toys for individuals living with disabilities.
Every year, they organize an event called Santa’s Little Hackers—a holiday toy drive that provides switch-adapted toys to children and adults who rely on accessibility devices for interaction and play.
Since most commercial toys aren’t designed with different physical abilities in mind, MaxMods steps in to modify toy electronics, making them usable with switches and AAC devices. This process transforms an off-the-shelf toy into something inclusive and empowering—at a fraction of the cost of commercial accessible toys.
“We use the toys we get from Plush in a Rush and adapt them to work for children with disabilities to use with their accessible switches, making it easier for them to play independently. Our Plush in a Rush toys are our largest request every year. The kids love the movement and songs.”
