The Spotlight is on Kate Shepherd

Kate Shepherd is a 16-year-old from Blackwell, Oklahoma. She opened her own business called Dainty Slime Company on Facebook. The idea started when she wanted to make homemade slime, but her mom was worried about the mess. After some research, Kate developed a recipe for scented slimes that don’t stick to clothes, carpet, or blankets—and her business grew from there.
A portion of all sales from Dainty Slime Company supports organizations like OK Kids Korral, OU Children’s Hospital, and local hospitals in Blackwell and Ponca City. Kate also donates plush bears through her “Hugs for Hospitals” campaign, offering comfort to children visiting ERs with injuries or trauma.
“They gave me a stuffed bear, and it stuck with me ever since… I wanted to really give them that warmth and joy of getting to snuggle with a soft gift.”
Kate’s giving spirit was shaped by her own hospital experience at OU Children’s Hospital when she was 13. Now, thanks to her initiative, many more children can feel that same sense of comfort through a simple yet powerful gesture: a cuddly stuffed animal.
