Located in Phoenix Arizona, Baseline Flowers is a family-owned and operated business that has been in business for over 70 years.
Founded by Hiroshi “Nick” Nakagawa, the business started out as a farm growing vegetables after World War II. Eventually, the family moved into the flower business. Throughout the 1950s through the 1980s there were 7 Japanese American families who grew/sold flowers along Baseline Road in South Phoenix.
Currently, the family no longer grows their own flowers and all the other families who had flower shops have sold their land. So, they’re the last remaining flower shop from the Japanese Flower Farm era and are hoping to keep the history alive.
The founder, Nick Nakagawa, has recently passed. But his family continues to run the business as a full-service florist and gift shop serving the greater Phoenix area.
